Let’s go shopping

If you’re winging it and want to pick up clothes (or gifts, accessories and more) in Chennai, here are our recommendations:

T. Nagar is the shopping hub and also where Mahitha’s family home is. Here are some spots you can go to to pick up whatever you need.

Ranganathan Street: Located in T. Nagar, Ranganathan Street is famous for its budget-friendly shopping options, including sarees, clothing, and accessories. You can find a variety of saree shops offering competitive prices. You’ll find a ton of vendors on the street and Pondy Bazaar is also around the area for bangles, bindis, clothing and more!

Nalli 100: One of the oldest and historic saree shops, Nalli was established in T. Nagar in 1928 and is a go-to for avid saree shoppers. I’ve been going there since I was a kid, and its a great place to get sarees in a wide range of budgets and also shop for fabrics if you want to get a custom outfit stitched.

Sundari Silks: This store has a wide range of collections and is well known for the Chettinad-style design - literally makes you feel like royalty while shopping.

Pothys - this is a one-stop shop for everything. You’ll find something for everyone and there’s a mix of sarees, lehengas, menswear and kids clothing.

Express Mall - has tons of clothing options, from Indo-western and comfortable cottons at Westside to intricate jewelry at Utharika. There’s footwear stores, a spa, skincare stores, a food court and book stores all in one place. The mall has a movie theater if you want to catch a Tamil movie in between shopping too! (It does get pretty crowded during the weekends, and as Diwali is around the time of the wedding, please factor in more time than expected at Express mall).

If you’re looking for something particular and not sure where to start, reach out to us and we’d be more than happy to give you recs based on your tastes or needs!
